Trends move fast, right? One minute there’s a new TikTok sound or reel format blowing up, the next everyone’s doing it.
And we get it, it’s tempting to try everything just to stay visible but if you’re not careful, your brand can end up looking confused or… well… like it’s trying too hard. Don’t worry, you don’t have to skip trends entirely. Here’s a three rules to ensure your brand is in sync with your favorite trends:
Rule 1: Only do trends that fit your brand
Just because everyone’s doing a dance or using a viral sound doesn’t mean you should. Ask yourself: Does this actually feel like us? If it doesn’t, don’t force it. Trends should highlight your brand, not confuse your audience Think of it like wearing the right outfit — just because it’s “in style” doesn’t mean it works for you.
Rule 2: Put your own spin on it
Trends are like templates and the fun part is making them your own. Identify why a trend is working (funny? relatable? emotional?) and adapt it to your message. You’re not copying; you’re interpreting it in a way that feels like your business. This keeps your content on-brand and memorable.
Rule 3: Prioritize your audience over virality
A trend might be blowing up online, but will it actually reach the people who care about your brand? Focus on your ideal audience first. Smaller, more engaged viewers are worth way more than a million random likes. And remember: consistency beats hopping on every trend. If your brand is recognizable and reliable, people will stick around — trends are just the cherry on top.
The bottom line: Trends are tools, not strategies. Use them intentionally, make them your own, and let your brand personality lead the way. Your business doesn’t have to follow every wave — it just has to show up confidently.
